For the better part of a decade, Kesha Bruce’s work has explored the rich territory of African-American folklore and magical-spiritual belief within the African diaspora. Her current work is motivated by her desire to use art-making as spiritual practice that can promote community building and social justice.

The new works Bruce has created for Sanctuary combine the artist’s powerful set of continuously evolving symbols that she refers to as a personal, magical alphabet with fierce figures who act as both guardian and warrior spirits.

During Sanctuary the gallery will be transformed into a sacred space for discussion, reflection, strategizing and healing. 100% of the proceeds from the exhibition will go towards Soul Sanctuary Yoga, an out-reach program that brings the healing power of art and yoga to low-income individuals and families in shelters, transitional housing programs, and sober living environments.
